You have been heard about it many times since US law tried to pass it, as describing protecting law for internet. It is SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act), proposed by U.S. Representative Lamar S. Smith to fight against trafficking of copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. On 18th January 2012, Wikipedia, Reddit and other 7000+ websites conducted service blackout to show their protest against it. It is now old enough for everyone to know about it, so we will not discuss it here further more.
