31 Creative White Websites Emphasizing Simplicity
White: Minimalism Redefined//+
White is the color of perception which is evoked through light and stimulates all three types of color sensitive cells within the human eye in nearly equal amounts, and with high brightness compared to other surroundings. A white visual stimulation will be void of hue and grayness.
Since white is the extreme end of the visual spectrum ( in terms of both hue and shade ), and since white objects – such as clouds, snow and flowers – appear often in nature, it has frequent symbolism. Human culture has many references to white, often related to purity and cleanness, whilst the high contrast between white and black is often used to represent opposite extremes.
White is often seen within Minimalism and a minimalist approach when it comes to web design which emphasizes simplicity and the removal of superfluous elements. It’s application permeates within art, architecture, print work, and in web design.
Despite the fact that white is often considered somewhat boring, and unadventurous the websites displayed below show, that this couldn’t be further from the truth. Many designers find the simplicity and minimalist approach rather liberating – it allows them more room by which to experiment with design, without the distraction of too much color. Here are some wonderful examples of white websites, from graceful, well-organised, typographic layouts to high-impact, maximum contrast designs.
