What is Subscription? What is RSS feed?

Last month only I got myself subscribed to a weekly newsletter which updates me with all the latest market information needed for my business. Latest news, happenings everything gets automatically delivered to my email account which I access daily and believe me my life has become easy and well sorted. Now, I don’t have to keep on checking different websites for the updates instead I get sorted and relevant information available at one place. It saves lot of time and efforts and that too at little cost. You may or may not have used the service and for those who are relatively unaware about subscriptions and feeds; let us read more about it.

By dictionary definition: Subscription is the action of making or agreeing to make an advance payment in order to receive or participate in something. In real world it is a product or service for which you pay periodically, rather than paying all at once. RSS or “Really Simple Syndication” is one such service. It is like a group of web feed (updates) formats used to publish often updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, stock updates or podcasts. You may get summary or the detailed updated content.

RSS feeds are read by feed reader or aggregators which collect and bring the relevant data from different sources and display at one place. Users click on RSS icons in browsers or they enter the feed’s link into the readers and the get themselves subscribed for automated updates. These feeders continuously check upon subscribed feeds and update those as soon as they find it.

Every part of business which is one or the other way connected to internet needs or provides these feeds. This whole collection and distribution of information is a huge network where some are receptors and others are donors and sometimes both. If you have access to updated and relevant information for your business; there are almost absolute chances that you succeed. And in today’s competitive world it is mandatory to be get yourself subscribed to one or more such feeds.
