Either way, everyone can agree that South America is turning into a tech hub for businesses.

If you’re considering a move to South America, you need to make sure to move to the right place. Here are a few cities that should be on your radar.

Sao Paulo, Brazil

Sao-Paulo-Brazil
Brazil has made major social and economic leaps in the past decade and is on track to keep growing. There are no stones about it: Brazil is the powerhouse of South America.

Sao Paulo may not look like much at first blush–it’s enormous and often difficult for the newcomer to conquer. But once you spend time in Sao Paulo, you’ll start to understand why the locals say they wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

It’s also a great startup community. In fact, one of the most successful startups in Latin America, Drafiti, is based there. Which makes sense when you realize that Sao Paulo is at the center of the Brazilian economy.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires, Argentina
You’ve definitely heard of Buenos Aires. And for good reason.

It’s a foodie city with parrillas (steak houses) on every corner and a thriving nightlife. But the real benefit for businesses is the tech environment that’s flourishing there.

Buenos Aires has been dubbed the Silicon Valley of Latin America, housing several wildly successful tech unicorns like Globant, which has offices in 17 countries and an annual revenue of around $400 million.

The presence of tech giants means that there’s a major tech talent pool waiting to be tapped, especially in Parque Patricos and Palermo, two of the liveliest tech neighborhoods in the city.

Santiago, Chile

Santiago-Chile
Chile is often held up as an economic model for Latin America, with Santiago as its tech capital.

It has several qualities that make it highly attractive to tech companies, including cheap wages, a reliable infrastructure, and solid government incentives. In fact, since 2010, Chile has put more than $40 million into 1,300 growing companies who generated at least that many jobs.

In other words, there’s plenty to take advantage of in Santiago. And because the Chilean government fosters an entrepreneurial culture, you’ll have plenty of like-minded company.

If anything, many Americans who start companies in Chile are surprised by how much it reminds them of southern California, from the wine country to the mountains to the weather.
