Graffiti is a well-known art type which is done by spraying with color onto wall or other public places, other forms are writing, scratching, drawing scribbled etc. [highlight-red]Graffiti is in existence since the Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire time in the form of simple written words or wall paintings.[/highlight-red] In some countries Graffiti art is considered defacement and vandalism as people are used to drawing on wall without permission of owner.
This is a big topic of discussion among city officials and law enforcement and writers who wish to display their art into public place. Graffiti comes from Italian word which says designing something by scratching to the surface in a manner which constitutes vandalism. Casually graffiti is intertwined with the hip-hop culture and myriad culture was taken from New York Subway Graffiti.
As this art is becoming popular and legitimization of graffiti has come a level of commercialization. [highlight-red]In 2001, computer giant IBM launched an advertising campaign in Chicago and San Francisco which involved people spray painting on sidewalks a peace symbol, a heart, and a penguin (Linux mascot), to represent “Peace, Love, and Linux.”[/highlight-red] However due to illegalities some of the “street artists” were arrested and charged with vandalism and IBM was fined more than US$120,000 for punitive and clean-up costs, as found on Wikipedia.
