Adobe Systems the predominant leader in animation graphics, unveiled an early version of its latest software on Monday called Adobe Edge. The particular software will enable designers to develop animated content for websites using web standards such as : HTML5, Java Script, and CSS3 instead of Flash.
Adobe is introducing new technology, just like Apple who emphatically states that Flash is old technology and that HTML5 is the future of web standards , and thus iphone and iPad don’t display or render flash related content. However, Adobe clarifies that their new software is not developed in order to replace Adobe Flash, but to simply aid the developer within being able to create web animated content for devices which do not render Flash and furthermore it is specifically targeted for Apple’s iOS mobile devices such as iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
The Company reveals that the Developer Community was fervently demanding such kind of software for quite some time now , and last year when Adobe and Apple were heatedly debating on Apple’s refusal in allowing Flash Software for Apple’s mobile devices ; Apple rebutted that Flash was too slow and raised security concerns.
However, Adobe Edge has nothing to do with Flash, as this software is meant to help drive HTML content on the web.
Features of EDGE
Edge enables developers to build and create professional animations, and with the help of this software developers will be able to develop and design even a simple game. Edge is looking forward to including canvas support for HTML audio video tags. It provides support for web graphics, Svg, Png, Jpg, Gif and many other file formats.
Edge is designed for both Mac and Windows, and contains an easy and intuitive panel user interface. It also takes less time to boot up and helps aids the developer so they can easily understand and observe the basic functionalities of EDGE.

Edge creates new compositions from scratch using basic HTML building blocks, text and imported web graphics. Edge can manipulate objects with styling options and can associate with the Jquery based animation framework.
After the completion of a project Edge allows developers to run and test their projects on various platforms and browsers such as : iOS and Android Platforms, webkit enabled devices and browsers like Chrome, Safari, FireFox and Internet Explorer 9.
With Edge, the user can easily create new animations with the time line editor. And it allows developers to animate the position, size, rotation and more with the property. Provides copy and paste transition, revert back to the workflow and select through 25 easing effects for creativity.
Devin Fernandez, Group Product Manager for Adobe’s Web Pro Segment said : “HTML 5 is an opportunity for Adobe” – “that’s not to say there aren’t opportunities for flash. He contends that flash will continue to push forward, and as we have reported, that Edge will focus on those areas which HTML 5 can’t address just like 3d gaming.
HTML 5 or Flash
Although flash is still making its mark concerning web-animation graphics and media, and has been an important part of website animation for several years, the launch of Edge doesn’t imply that Edge will overthrow nor overtake Flash. It simply means that Adobe Systems is working on various scenario’s concerning Adobe Edge which will help both designers and developers in creating and developing applications for ipad, iphone and ipod, despite Flash being deemed best for animation.
The overall conclusion is, that both technologies work differently and according to John Cole, Adobe has a dedicated team of engineers who are working diligently towards both technologies and will offer updates for both HTML5 and Flash in the not so distant futire.
In other words Adobe believes Flash still has a solid future here on the web for some time. However , it is uncertain as to whether the web will be able to run pure Flash based content and whether developers and designers would accept something of this nature , which is another approach on Adobe’s part in attempting to maintain its mark amongst web leading professionals such as , developer and designers.

Users can download Adobe Edge while it is currently in public preview period. The 1.0 product is expected to launch next year.
