Many of you think that you just randomly ended up in that movie-theater seat watching things explode? No, that was the end result of an elaborately meticulously crafted propaganda campaign by the movie studios, utilizing all the persuasive powers of graphic design & typography by which to subconsciously lure you into buying that movie ticket
and spending two + hours glued to the edge of your seat watching your favorite action hero save the world from evil . This is the magic of Movie Posters and the power of persuasion !
Movie posters are considered an art form and, unfortunately, a forgotten art form at that. During the early years of cinema, Illustrative posters were utilized just like any other advertising material. They were displayed in theatres only, and basically – movie posters served the same function as a menu did in a restaurant, granting the customer (viewer) a list by which to ‘ choose ‘ what their primary course would be. Flash forward to the present day and age, movie posters have come to play a major role in cinema and especially when it comes to memorabilia collection.
Movie Posters have become iconic whereas; they have become embedded onto the public consciousness, and have become so recognisable that one feels a certain familiarity when seeing them hanging on a wall, on a bus stop or anywhere where Ads are displayed.
Every time we see them we are instantly reminded of the film’s name, the actors and the soundtrack of the film begins playing in our mind, and feelings of excitement and intrigue, arise no matter how many times we have seen that particular film.
Here we celebrate the most inspiring and unforgettable examples of the cinematic Movie Posters, and hope to inspire and bring back some of those unforgettable film lines and your own personal favorites. Enjoy !
