If you are a living, breathing human above the age of 10 in the civilized world, you’ve undoubtedly heard of Apple and it’s line of i products. From iPhones to iPods to the Apple Watch, they are hugely popular and almost everybody wants one. And the new iPad Pro will more than likely be no exception. However, some of the most exciting and interesting tech being developed is something most consumers will never see. Here’s some of the latest technology you won’t be buying.
Military Tech
We do some of our best work when we are afraid of being blown to bits by an implacable foe. Had it not been for this mindset pushing the limits of what was possible at the time, we might not have GPS: a technology once exclusive to the military. Even now, the consumer version of the tech is limited compared to what the military possesses. However for most travelers and backpackers making use of handheld gps systems is a must especially when exploring to new places as an upgrade from the traditional map. These handheld GPS devices are less expensive and extremely versatile.
Thanks to the panel pc, the next generation of military technology will not only be ready for every terrain and condition, it will also be much more user friendly. This type of technology helps keep us safe and protects our interests throughout the world.
One of the more interesting gadgets being developed for the military is the robotic mule. It is a huge, four-legged robot that can carry heavy packs of soldiers in the field, quietly and autonomously over rough terrain. It will even be able to follow voice commands. While this tech will serve the military, operators will not be standing by for your call.
Medical Tech
Some view military tech as being designed to take human lives. But medical tech is universally recognized as being designed to save human lives. And while you, as a consumer, will never purchase any of this tech, you will likely be the recipient of its benefits.
One of the most interesting examples of what we have to look forward to is being developed by the University of California, San Diego. It is called the microfish. Don’t make the same mistake as my spell checker. This has nothing to do with the ancient tech that allows us to read miniaturized pieces of information under a microscope-like device. This is a 3D printed, microscopic fish that can swim through the blood stream and deliver life-saving drug therapy. Finally, there is a use for 3D printing that doesn’t involve pirated action figures.
Accessibility Tech
We’ve looked at tech that takes lives, and tech that saves lives. But at the end of the day, the most interesting tech may be the tech that makes lives better. Accessibility tech is a life-enhancing miracle to people with physical impairments. Apple is the accessibility leader in the personal computer and smart device space. Every Apple product you buy has a full range of accessibility options built in. Many smaller companies specialize in assistive technologies that make life livable for a small niche of users.
One of my favorite examples of this is an app called the KNFB Reader. Once the app is opened, a blind person can point the iPhone camera at a document, and without any further interaction, have that document read aloud. It is the kind of tech the average person hopes never to have to use. But for those who need it, there is nothing quite like it.
Military tech, medical tech, and accessibility tech are among the most interesting products not intended for a wider audience. But eventually, the underlying tech will power the mainstream lifestyles of generations to come.
