I know. The saying ‘the Uber of something’ is way overused and it’s become a bit of a joke in parts of the business world. But I’m going to use it anyway.
Because Lula is the Uber of Home Improvement. And it’s a super cool tool that has the potential to make many people’s lives much easier.
The CEO and Founder of Lula, Bo Lais, talked about the app in a recent Fox 4 Kansas City interview I watched. He described the app as being in the ‘home maintenance services on-demand space’. It was designed to help home owners accomplish something in just a few taps of the screen.
“With Lula, a homeowner can get a fully vetted quality, home maintenance professional to their door step in just a couple hours,” the Founder said on TV.
When I first read about Lula, I thought to myself ‘the pricing is probably crazy expensive’. There’s always a catch isn’t there? But you get to see the pricing before you submit the order. You can browse pricing for fun all day if you’d like.
“All the services available on the platform uses up-front pricing so you as a consumer will know exactly what you’re going to pay for a service before you actually request that service.”
Of all the Uber-related services, this one’s my favourite. Because, just as the Taxi service needed a major upgrade, so does the home maintenance world.
Just recently, I needed to get some minor plumbing repairs done in my house and it was the next thing to a nightmare. Three weeks later, my ‘minor job’ was completed at double the price I had been quoted on. That’s unacceptable. It’s 2017!
And by the sounds of it, that’s exactly what they had in mind when they came up with Lula.

“This is one of the industries that I feel is still largely transacted offline and we’re trying to disrupt that industry. It’s Uber meets the home maintenance service space,” Lais said.
With Lula, you can now hire for things like:

• Heating and Cooling repairs and upgrades
Coming soon, Lula will add:
• Junk Removal
• Electrical
• Plumbing
• Carpet Cleaning
• Locksmith services
So, you’re reading this and saying, “I don’t need that app. I’m a handyman who can do all those things myself”, with your chest puffed out. Well, make some money with your skills!You can be a service provider with Lula and earn money. Even if you have a HVAC company right now, Lula can help bring you clients and jobs. Pretty cool, eh?
Unfortunately, if you’re outside of the Kansas City, Missouri area, Lula won’t be available to you for upwards of 18 months. But hey, something to look forward to, right?
Looking back, I wish I had Lula a few years ago when I started a ‘Lawn Mowing company’. I had a trailer and a beautiful mower all set to go. All I needed was the customers! Needless to say, my ‘company’ didn’t last long.
After reading up on the Lula service, I was curious to know more about the company and how it came to be. So, I contacted the Founder, Bo and was inspired by the story behind it all!
You see, Bo lost a nephew to Cerebral Palsy in 2016 and was inspired by the fight and resilience from his young relative. It gave him the courage to quit his 6-digit job to pursue his dream: Lula.
