Stay on Top of Your Diet With Healthy Eating Apps

We all want to live a healthy lifestyle, however, we all know how easy it is to get caught up with work, to-dos and social life. Before we know it, we forget to keep an eye on our diet. Living a healthy lifestyle is a combination of eating well, de-stressing and doing exercise. Luckily exercise helps us reduce our stress levels. So, if we focus on improving our diet and exercise, then we are on the right track to get in optimum shape.

The best way to start is by making sure what we eat is good for our body. With so many great apps available for banking, games, news, and more, I decided to do some research and find the best apps for eating healthy. After some time on Google, I found a handy site called AppGrooves that has a list of supposedly the top 10 apps for healthy eating.

After some time with the apps, I handpicked my favorites and reviewed them.

Easily track your nutritional intake with MyFitnessPal

my fitness pal
My first pick is MyFitnessPal. I found this to be the perfect choice for making sure what you put in your fridge (and what you eat) is good for you. You start by setting your fitness goal, whether you want to gain muscle, lose or maintain weight. Then, using a handy barcode scanner feature, you can scan food items at the grocery store to quickly check their nutritional value and see if they fit your goals. I tried scanning a couple of items at the convenience store on my way home, and I was surprised to see that they were all instantly recognized. I also like that you can keep track of your progress with colorful graphs and charts.

I didn’t find my specific smoothie recipe in MyFitnessPal’s food database, but I found it easy to input the recipe manually. The nutritional content was automatically calculated which was pretty neat, considering I had no idea what nutrients I was getting from my smoothie. I also liked that you can save your own recipes to use them again later!

Lifesum for healthy recipe recommendations

lifesum
My second pick, Lifesum, is a great choice if you want to lose weight. You don’t have to worry about coming up with healthy recipes, planning meals, counting calories or macronutrients. Lifesum does all of this for you! I found the food recommendations to be varied, and some of the recipes looked pretty good! I also liked that you can set restrictions on the type of food recommendations you get. So, if you are following a paleo diet, keto diet, diabetic diet, military diet or any other diet, you can customize diet plans to fit your needs.

I didn’t see many vegan recipe options. However, I found that the meal planning algorithm does a great job at keeping the meals varied and interesting while making sure they fit your diet.

8fit Workouts & Meal Planner – Plan your fitness journey

8 fit workouts and meal
My third choice is 8fit Workout & Meal Planner. This is a great choice if you are looking for an easy way to plan both your meals and workouts. Like Lifesum, I found options for adjusting meal plans to fit various diets, like the ketogenic diet, vegan diet, pescatarian and more. What I really like about it, is that the meals are adjusted to match the workout routines, to maximize your benefits. I also liked that the exercise recommendations can be completed in 5-20 minutes, which is great when you don’t have much time on your hands.

8fit puts a lot of work into planning meals by considering many dietary requirements. Although I wasn’t too fond of some of the meal recommendations, I did find some food options that looked particularly good. I also liked that you can easily access a list of what food to eat and what to avoid, to make sure you are always on track.
