Immunotherapy and Immunotherapeutic Vaccines

As the name suggests, this type of treatment involves boosting your immune system. Immunotherapy is often less toxic than other forms of therapy because it only harnesses your body’s natural defenses and uses it to fight cancer cells.

One example is immunotherapeutic vaccine, which works by making your body strong enough to fight cancer. The FDA has approved Sipuleucel-T (Povenge), a type of immunotherapeutic vaccine that works by getting a sample of immune system cells from the blood and then exposing these cells to chemicals that will transform them into special immune cells known as dendritic cells.

This type of treatment is often used for advanced prostate-cancer patients who are not getting results from other procedures like hormone therapy. So far, results have been very positive, and scientists are currently developing a similar treatment for treating other cancers like in the bladder and lungs.

Hyperthermia Therapy

This type of experimental procedure applies heat on the whole body or in the localized area affected by the cancer hence the name. The intense heat involved in this treatment is designed to cause denaturation and coagulation of cellular proteins and this will result in killing cells inside the tumor efficiently.

To simplify, this experimental cancer cure is very promising because it eliminates cancerous growth from the inside out. The idea of using heat as a treatment for health ailments can be traced all the way back to ancient times. Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians in the olden days were known to apply heat on breast masses. Hyperthermia has also been used to shrink tumors.

Cannabis

Cannabis or marijuana has been. since ancient times. able to treat a wide range of illnesses from insomnia to seizures to gastrointestinal disorders. Today, the medical community is starting to recognize its potential as a cure for cancer.

A number of landmark studies have shown that compounds found in the plant can slow down or completely stop tumor growth. One such study was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, and although the trials were conducted only on mice with Lewis lung adenocarcinoma, more studies have shown the same results in gliomas, leukemia cells, and skin tumors.

In addition to being a cure for cancer, marijuana can also help patients manage a number of debilitating symptoms associated with the disease, including nausea, chronic pain, stress, and insomnia. More studies need to be made to confirm this plant’s effectiveness in killing cancer cells.

With marijuana legalization rapidly spreading, many are becoming optimistic that newer and more in-depth research will be conducted about the drug and its possible application as a cancer treatment.

Keep in mind that although these procedures are very promising, they are still in the experimental stage and may not be readily available to the general public. Always consult your physician if you are considering an experimental treatment so they can help discuss the options and possible side effects with you in depth.
