Work-at-home is the new image of success in this day and age. I mean, who wouldn’t want to achieve independence from the bounding 9 to 5’s? Who wouldn’t want the opportunity to take hold of his own life and work on his own time? While some people think that money defines success, many just want to get better hold of their lives. They just want to work to live and not live to work. After all, no matter how much wealth you accumulate, it can never buy back the time that has already passed. So if you manage to come up with a way to earn a living while enjoying the comforts of your own home, surrounded by people you love, then you’ve pretty much tasted success right?
This is the kind of reality people seek. This is the kind of life they want to live. And fortunately, in today’s time, it is definitely possible to achieve this kind of reality.
I am living proof.
But really, work-at-home people like me don’t always have it easy you know. We encounter all sorts of challenges too – especially when it concerns our home office.

What Is It Like To Have Your Home As Your Office?
That’s right, you guys. Even when we do work at home, we still need a home office. It’s pretty easy to lose focus and procrastinate when you’re surrounded by so many distractions, you see. At home, there’s TV, video games, Netflix, internet, and all sorts of attention-grabbing things. Let’s not even begin talking about random kitchen rendezvouses. So we really need a place where we can work in peace.
To be honest, it can be devastating. To learn how little self-control you have can be pretty heart-breaking. So, every day is like a constant battle against yourself. No one’s there to guide you, let alone monitor how you’re doing. While this might seem like the most ideal situation for any adult alive, it is also very, very hard. You easily get distracted, side-tracked even (here’s how not to do this). But at the end of the day, you know that sitting idly won’t put bread on the table. In other words, it feels like you’re constantly at war with yourself.
Then, there’s also the part about physical upkeep.
At the office, the janitor’s got your back. After you finish work, you don’t need to care about the aftermath. You organize files and such but sweeping floors, emptying trash bins, and other tedious tasks are not your responsibility anymore. At home, you have to look after yourself – and your workplace. You have to make sure that everything is neat and organized. Just when you finally think that you have managed to get all the major chores done some tedious tasks will come into view and ruin your day altogether.
Say, a whole bunch of wires and cables jumbled up together underneath your work desk.
Yep, cables are a big pain to deal with. And ironically, they are everywhere. Every electronic device you have will have some sort of cord attached to it – which you then attach to other devices and so on and so forth. Dealing with them can be terribly confusing.
So if this is your problem too, then it must be destiny that brought you here today. Here are some cool cord management tips from one home worker to another:
1. Throw or Store Unused Cables In A Convenient Box
That’s right. When you learn how to organize your cords better, the less clutter you will see. Use a clean storage box to neatly put away cables that aren’t in use. Better yet, use several smaller boxes and classify them according to use as well (e.g. stereo cables go with other stereo cables; phone chargers go with other phone chargers). When you have so many cords lying about, the whole place will start looking messy – not to mention confusing too!
2. Buy Some Cable Clips
Cable clips are your best friend when it comes to messy cords. When cables are too long, they tend to get entangled with others. This makes them look like a whole jumble of confusing mess. However, if you have some cable clips to distinguish them from one another, then everything looks more organized. It sure helps you find cables much easier too!
3. Label Your Cables Accordingly
Get a three-inch paper tape and wrap it around each cord. Make sure you close it in a way that leaves a flat surface for you to write in. Label your cables according to what they’re used for or how they function. It should help you manage all these crazy wires better!
