The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints has gained importance in The Philippines through the years. At first, for the missionary’s work, and then for their ability to adapt to technology. Latter-day Saints believe that, if used wisely, most technology can be helpful to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
It’s believed that the development of technology was brought about by God’s inspiration, among other things, to spread Jesus Christ’s gospel across the world.
How technology is used by missionaries
Gadgets like smartphones and other devices are used by missionaries of the Church to connect with people and share messages of the Church. Spiritual messages are sent easily to family and friends wherever parts of the world they may be. Mobile applications are also used to access Bible videos or reading a digital copy of the Book of Mormon.
Recently, The Church rolled out a new initiative in which missionary candidates receive their assignments online instead of in the mail. This process has been tested in various countries and will now be expanded to all around the world with reliable internet access.
Besides the call letter, missionaries can immediately access all mission materials online, including maps, country information, and lists of items to bring. Call letters and related materials can also be printed and downloaded for remembrance and record keeping.

FamilySearch
The Church also has one of the largest collections of genealogical records in the world, which is available publicly through FamilySearch.org. FamilySearch is a service provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because interest in family history is not limited by culture, ethnicity, or religious faith, FamilySearch’s resources are available to everyone who wants to discover more about their family and their heritage.
FamilySearch provides personal assistance for both experienced family historians and those who are just beginning their genealogical journey.
How to use technology
Technology should be used wisely. This means not using it negatively or in a wrong way. Anyone can get easily exposed to lies, sex, violence and rude behavior found online or in social media. Also, many people waste their productive time playing games, scrolling through social media posts or browsing websites. Using technology wisely means using it to improve lives, and not a hindrance or distraction from our responsibilities and personal relationships.
Limitation of technology
Technology is useful in many facets of life, and it would be impractical and quite impossible to avoid using it in a given time. However, people can limit the length of time they will spend in using technology. Parents and children together must decide the websites and apps to use. They should help their children in recognizing which content is inappropriate and should be avoided.
