Why Did People Get Crazy With SEO?

As humanity entered an age of information, the need for accessible and data-driven content rose drastically (read more). People wanted to be kept in the loop; they wanted to closely follow the latest fads and trends. And since the internet has somehow provided the human race with a medium for mass dissemination of information, websites grew in number.

As you may have already guessed, these websites great enthusiasm in joining the internet scene is far from innocent. Most websites who jumped the gun as soon as online markets were open are those with business agendas in mind. The internet practically bridged the world together, creating a space wherein people from far and wide can interact with openly, get crazy, and do business.

This gave birth to e-Commerce or what you’d call online businesses – even established companies were quick to set up camp online as soon as opportunity knocked on their doors. Long story short, everyone got a little too enthusiastic with this promising new business space and it wasn’t long after that the internet housed millions of gigabytes of data that belonged to various establishments.

Around this time, search engines began popping up one after the other. After all, you know what they “Necessity is the mother of all invention.” It was apparent that the amount of data floating in cyberspace was building up and there was no convenient way of organizing them – let alone, make them available for impromptu use. When Google, Yahoo, and other big shot search engines entered the ring, the very fiber of the cyber universe was shook. They gave people the perfect solution to their dilemma. Now, people had access to the kind of information they want and need anytime, anywhere. You can check out this video for more information about how searches work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVV_93mBfSU. Or, allow us to explain it below:

How Do Search Engines Work?

As we previously stated, the internet houses gazillion amounts of data. And even with search engines, people can’t possibly take a look at all of them. Try searching for “ice cream shops” for example. I wouldn’t be surprised if Google turns up with a billion results. The first thing that you have to understand about the internet is that it is global. This goes the same for the number of people using it. You can’t expect to search for one topic and receive just a handful of results.

Now, a million items can’t possibly be displayed in a single results page. This is why content is “ranked.” As to who ranks them, well, that’s a search engine’s job. Google, for example, have intricate criteria for ranking content. They decide which websites should go on the top most pages by determining the quality level of each site. If it’s Google, quality is always (if not the only) deciding factor.

What Is SEO Then?

There are many ways to a search engine’s heart. Unfortunately, putting up a crappy website with even crappier content is not one of those ways. Therefore SEO, according to Thunderhawk, exists for businesses and rising entrepreneurs that need help with improving their website. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization so I guess you can say that it’s basically the science behind ranking search engines.

It is as much a practice as it is a science, however. SEO is ever-evolving. And after more than a decade of following the latest hijinks, we can really attest to its volatile nature. Not to worry, though. There are professionals who train especially for SEO. If you ever find yourself in need of website help, they’re your guys. No task is too tedious for these experts!
