While you have probably played dozens (or even hundreds) of board games in your life, there are certainly some that you haven’t had the pleasure of trying. With that in mind, this article is going to go over some of the best board games to consider trying out in 2021.

Dungeons & Dragons

While not really a board game per-so, Dungeons and Dragons is certainly a game you need to try out if you have never played it before. It is a tabletop RPG where players set out on an adventure in a fantasy world. Everyone creates their own character, complete with stats, background, and name.

Along with other players you set out in a world created by the DM (Dungeon Master). You will attempt to overcome the many roadblocks and challenges you will be faced with on your journey. It is a game fueled by creativity and lets people explore their imagination and problem-solving skills in many ways that other games simply don’t allow.

Of course, if you want to truly get the most out of your dungeons and dragons session, make sure that you have the right accessories. You can get game mats, journals, miniature figures for the game, and take your pick from some amazing dice options.

Betrayal At House On The Hill

If you love a lot of suspense and excitement in your board game, this might be the game for you. Betrayal at House on the Hill is a game all about exploring a haunted mansion that you created. Every game begins with players using tiles to create a different haunted mansion, so the game board is unique every time.

There are several different stories you can play in. During play, you will encounter several different omens and spirits that can have a profound impact on the game. Also, one of the 3-6 players will be a traitor and it is up to the other players to identify the betrayal and defeat the traitor before it is too late. The game is incredibly entertaining, will play differently every time, and takes about an hour to finish in most cases.

Codenames

This is a word game where each team attempts to be the first to collect all of their agents off the board. While one player (the spymaster) on each team knows where the agents are, the rest of the players only see the codenames. This could be a place, a person, or a thing. It is up to the spymaster to use one-word clues each turn to try and help their team identify their agents.

For example, if the agent is hidden under the “pool” codename, the spymaster might say swimming and hope their team will make the connection and locate the agent. Some spymasters might get daring and attempt to give a clue that could identify more than one agent. However, be careful not to accidentally identify words that belong to the other team, or it could be your downfall. It is a fun and challenging game that involves a lot of strategy and teamwork to attempt to decipher which tile the spymaster was referring to with their clue.

No matter your tastes or game preferences, we are sure you can find a great board game to try out in 2021 with your friends or family.
