Super Meat Boy
If you’re into side scroller platform games like Super Mario would be the best example then you’ll absolutely enjoy this game. It has a story mode similar to Super Mario and different levels that are quite a struggle. Its graphics are cute and give you the retro game feel, having a somewhat similar 8-bit pixel style that old games use.
This game allows you to warp into other games. It also has 16 unlockable and playable character from different popular indie games. Games that let us kill zombies like in Left 4 Dead or Resident Evil are quite popular and it’s not hard to see why. Killing and destroying things give us excitement and thrill. Similar to the likes of Left 4 Dead and Resident Evil, the zombie game setting is a zombie apocalypse and but it’s more strategic and not an FPS.
Your job is to make sure your people don’t get infected by a zombie and are able to evacuate with the help of your helicopters. It has a 3rd person view and you hire mercenaries to aid you in the evacuation. The cities you will play through are procedurally-generated meaning you will have a unique experience when you play it again and to add more fun, you can blow up everything.
It also allows you to modify the rules of the game as much as you want and you can share your mods with your friends plus it supports multiplayer so you can play with up to three friends the new mod you made or the original game, your choice.
Braid
Playing retro games, there will always be times we fail and die, and the nature of video games in that era is that we are able to redo the level from the very beginning and respawn since we have a number of lives we can use up before we have to restart the whole game from beginning to end. That gameplay is quite a struggle and sometimes we decide to quit playing the game entirely, this game puts a twist and changes that.
Braid is a platformer with graphics that are retro and nostalgic for us who have been playing video games ever since nineteen-forgotten but what’s unique about this game is that you can manipulate time at will. You can cheat death and undo your mistakes. The power to control time is at your finger-tips.
Besides time manipulation, the story is nonlinear, unlike other games which have a similar concept. Nonlinear fiction connects you to the various world and provides real-world metaphors the time manipulations; however, the time manipulations are projections of real-world themes turn into entertaining “what if” universes different outcomes can be explored.
Those of you who are tired of having to restart from the beginning every time, give this game a shot and you can manipulate time anytime.
These games bring back the old days, with their pixelated graphics, funky game music and give much nostalgia to us who grew up with these kinds of games. These games may be old but they are part of our evolution.
