The prominence of Prince George County’s gem was felt even in its earliest years. In the 1930s, Hyattsville became the headquarters for the County Government Services building and the regional Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. In the 1950s, the city began to form as much as it does at present. Schools, shopping malls, and several businesses coexist with an ideal bus system. Its streets boast of the Hyattsville Historic District, which features more than a thousand buildings of Colonial Revivals, Victorians, and Arts and Crafts influences. When to Visit
The city of Hyattsville holds its City Anniversary Parade & Festival each spring, usually on a weekend in April. The celebration starts with a morning parade that winds through Hyattsville’s residential area. Colorful parade groups include classic cars, step teams, marching bands, police and fire units, youth and several other community groups. After the parade, flocks of fairgoers head their direction towards Magruder Park, which features carnival amusement for the entire family. Food concessions, games, and rides are hosted by Taylor and Sons Amusement Rides. Tourists can expect live music and free family fun tents in the very least. The International Street Festival aims to celebrate the city’s cultural diversity. Held in September, festival activities include ethnic food sales, carnival games, and lots of music and dancing. At dusk, the celebration caps off with a spectacular fireworks display. The set of yearly activities also include a Jumpin Jukebox Parent & Child Dance Party in February and a Community Yard Sale in October.

# Hyattsville is unique among other cities in Maryland as its history can be traced to as far as 8,000 years, as proven by several archaeological records. Iroquois- and Algonquin-speaking Indians were found out to inhabit the place in just the recent millennium. In 1608, the first European exploration was documented.
