Go easy on your Mac

Sometimes all you have to do to stop your Mac from overheating is slow down the activities. As you might know, gaming requires a lot of computing power to perform. Imagine running other power-consuming applications in an already engaged computer, Overwhelming, right? To solve this problem, you will need to launch the activity monitor on your Mac. The activity monitor allows you to quit unnecessary applications and dedicate more resources or power to your preferred task (in this case, gaming). Remember, the goal is to keep your Mac speedy for the ultimate gaming experience.

Clean your Mac

Another reason your Mac is slowing down is the files bloating up as you use it. A new Mac works fine but over time it will accumulate many files that hurt performance. So, one reason your Mac is too hot while gaming is perhaps you have not taken the time to clean your device. It is impossible to enjoy a game if your device is slow because it is battling system junk, unwanted apps, and malware. You need to clean your Mac and allow it to run at full throttle again. Luckily, there are good cleaners that will not only clean but also boost and guard your laptop. A good cleaner app can disable heavy consuming apps, turn off all login items overloading your CPU, and stop macOS viruses derailing your device.

Check and disable login items

Before playing a game, you need to check applications that automatically launch when your computer starts. Keep in mind that any application(s) causing extra workload will cause your Mac to overheat. Therefore to ensure your Mac is not overloaded, disable login items that automatically launch upon login. Go to your system preference, then go to Users and Groups in the top left of the menu bar. You will see a padlock icon on the bottom left; click on it and enter your account password. Select the login items tab and apps that you do not want to automatically startup, then check the box next to these apps and click the minus button to remove a login item.

Use your Mac on flat solid surfaces

Did you know it is not advisable to place your Mac on soft surfaces like your lap or bed? It’s simple, when you place your Mac on an uneven and smooth surface, air from the internal fans gets blocked. It won’t regulate its temperature properly, causing the Mac device to overheat even under a small load. A flat solid surface will allow air to exit. If you want to enjoy your gaming session in bed, you can buy a laptop stand.

# Tip:
Regardless of the surface, laptops attract dust, which can clog their vents. To solve this, spray compressed air into your Mac’s vents to loosen dust or dirt that clogs the vent and cause it to overheat.

Wrap up

As a Mac user, you need to be mindful of how your device is working. Keep in mind that how you take care of it determines how it will serve you. As a gamer, incorporating some of the aspects discussed in your care routine will go a long way in spicing up your experience and prolonging the life of your machine.
